New Year, New Experiences
A Message from Advancement Resources
Two thousand and ten, twenty ten, two oh ten, or two thousand ten? There is a common
debate on how to say “2010”, but don’t spend too much time focusing on the “correct”
way to say it. Instead, focus your time thinking about the amazing things you will make
happen in this New Year. Pull out your workbook from The Art and Science of Donor
Development
and locate the following Key Element and Tactic #1 for Donor Development.

Donor commitment and donor development begin with some experience.

Connect the donor to one or more life-changing events in his/her life.

If you want to transform your career, engage donors more deeply, and receive larger
gifts – gifts that are more meaningful to donors, then your goal for 2010 should be to
get donors/donor prospects talking. By doing so, you can discover those experiences
and life-changing events that match what you and your organization want to accomplish.

Ask & Act
  • How will you get donors’ stories on the table and discover their life experiences? Remember, some donors’ life experiences are not shared easily.
  • What is it that you and your organization want to accomplish in 2010? It’s important to have this on hand so you can match those things to donors’ experiences.
  • Are there any tools/resources that you can use in a new way during this New Year?  Perhaps your Donor Development Chart or Donor Tracking Folder?
A New Year presents a great time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. 2010 is in full swing and will bring much excitement. Now, go out and make magic happen.
